Radiothon success
AKRON: This year’s Have a Heart, Do Your Part radiothon raised $716,493.98 for Akron Children’s Hospital.
The annual event aired Thursday through Saturday on WKDD (98.1 FM). The telethon is the largest fundraiser for the pediatric hospital.
Last year’s total was $445,000.

Wormy discussion
BATH TWP.: Worm composting will be the subject of a Summit County workshop on March 10.
The program will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Crown Point Ecology Center, 3220 Ira Road. The program is being presented by Crown Point and Hattie Larlham.

Fishing program
COVENTRY TWP.: The Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Wildlife is holding a Passport to Fishing program on Thursday.
It will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the wildlife offices at 912 Portage Lakes Drive.
The free workshop is designed for adults who want to learn how to teach and promote fishing by youth.

Writer will speak
DEERFIELD TWP.:. The Deerfield Historical Society will host Bob O’Connor, author of historical novels about the Civil War, at the Deerfield Town Hall on Sunday.
Doors will open at 2 p.m. for conversations with O’Connor, followed by the presentation, John Brown, Still of Interest Today, at 3 p.m. and a soup and salad buffet supper for $5.

Book sale planned
RANDOLPH TWP:: The Friends of the Randolph Library will hold a winter book sale this week in the Randolph Community Center, 1639 state Route 44.
A preview sale for members will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday. The sale will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday.
Proceeds benefit programs and collections at the library.

AKRON: The Friends of Portage Lakes State Park will discuss wildflowers and the natural environment at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The meeting will be at the Kiwanis Civic Center, 725 Portage Lakes Drive.

Dinner plans
AKRON: The Polish American Club, 472 Glenwood Ave., Akron, will hold a Mardi Gras dinner to benefit the PAC Building Fund.
The dinner at 5 p.m. Saturday will feature traditional Polish food including sauerkraut and sausage and homemade pierogis.
The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children up to the age of 12.
